Isle of Wight Beaches

Saturday morning, 18 January 2020, Yaverland, more than 20 of us basking in the beauty of Sandown Bay

Islanders sea swimmers are extremely lucky to have some of the most accessible and beautiful beaches in the world. For those of us who have been seriously bitten by the sea swimming bug, there is almost always somewhere you can swim on any given day. If the wind is northerly, then the waters to the south and east of the island are usually calm whereas an easterly wind will see us scurrying over to the west or north so we can have our fix.

There are many places to swim around the island, some are more accessible than others, the facilities vary, the topography and many other factors. Over the course of the next few months, each will be visited to enable swimmers – and non-swimmers – to plan their trips and what to expect.

Sandown Bay

Winner of Country File’s ‘Beach of the Year’ 2019. (Village of the Year in 2019 was Bembridge – as if we needed to know that the Isle of Wight is a wonderful place to live 😊 )
